Solution Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and development of enterprise solution architectures that facilitate VA modernization projects.

• Design scalable, secure, and robust solutions that integrate traditional healthcare systems with contemporary enterprise platforms.

• Assist in modernization initiatives involving VistA/MUMPS-based applications, cloud transformations, and enterprise interoperability, while ensuring data integrity and operational continuity across both legacy and modern systems.

• Assess AI-generated outputs—which include code analyses, dependency maps, workflow diagrams, business rules extractions, and system documentation—ensuring their architectural integrity, accuracy, and completeness. Translate validated outputs into solution designs, sprint backlog items, and technical roadmap decisions.

• Establish integration and interoperability patterns that guarantee data consistency, traceability, and reliable exchanges between VistA/MUMPS legacy systems and updated target platforms throughout the transition process.

• Convert business and technical requirements into comprehensive architectural solutions and implementation strategies that ensure consistency between legacy and modern systems.

• Work collaboratively with infrastructure, integration, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, data, and application development teams to facilitate cohesive solution delivery.

• Create cloud-native and hybrid architectures utilizing modern platforms, APIs, and enterprise technologies.

• Produce solution blueprints, architecture diagrams, technical roadmaps, and design documentation.

• Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity, Zero Trust, compliance, and enterprise architecture standards.

• Assess emerging technologies and propose modernization strategies that align with VA mission objectives, focusing on technologies relevant to active program deliverables.

• Engage in architecture governance reviews, technical assessments, and strategic planning discussions.

• Support initiatives related to system scalability, performance optimization, reliability, and operational sustainability.

• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to engineering and delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

• 10-15+ years of experience in enterprise solution architecture, systems engineering, or technology modernization initiatives.

• Experience in supporting large-scale federal IT modernization programs, preferably in healthcare or VA settings.

• Proven ability to critically assess AI-generated technical outputs—such as code analyses, dependency maps, business rules extractions, and system documentation—for architectural soundness, accuracy, and completeness, and to convert validated insights into actionable solution designs and implementation strategies.

• Extensive experience in designing enterprise solutions across the domains of cloud, application, integration, and infrastructure.

• Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and modern application design principles.

• Experience with hybrid cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

• Strong grasp of APIs, microservices, middleware, and enterprise integration patterns.

• Experience in modernizing legacy applications and enterprise healthcare systems.

• Understanding of cybersecurity principles, federal compliance standards, and Zero Trust Architecture concepts.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the capability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
