Software Engineer – Sharded Postgres

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• You will be responsible for developing an optimal solution for sharded Postgres, a project we refer to as Neki: https://www.neki.dev/

• You will design and implement essential systems that drive PlanetScale's database platform, handling millions of queries per second for some of the largest applications worldwide.

• You will collaborate with a team of skilled engineers to address complex challenges related to distributed systems.

• You will operate autonomously to tackle engineering and business challenges with minimal guidance and significant independence.

• You will engage directly with customers to comprehend their requirements and convert them into effective technical solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, focusing on backend systems.

• Strong expertise in Go, along with familiarity in other programming languages such as Python or C++.

• Experience not only in operating but also in developing PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other database systems.

• Proven experience in building and managing distributed systems at scale.

• Knowledge of database internals, query optimization techniques, or distributed consensus algorithms.

• Contributions to open-source initiatives, particularly within the database or infrastructure domains.

• Familiarity with cloud service providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).

• Understanding of monitoring, observability, and debugging tools.

• Previous work experience at a rapidly growing technology company.
