This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.
• Develop and maintain shared libraries that engineers throughout the organization rely on for data access, messaging, service communication, observability, and resilience.
• Create APIs that are widely adopted—your interfaces must be compelling enough that teams prefer them over building their own; this entails thoughtful defaults, clear abstractions, backward compatibility, and comprehensive documentation.
• Construct multi-cloud abstractions that enable services to operate seamlessly across cloud providers and on-premise environments without vendor-specific code.
• Design and implement resilience patterns—such as retries, circuit breakers, load shedding, and graceful degradation—as reusable components that become standard for every service.
• Develop platform capabilities—like feature management, traffic control, disaster recovery, and sharding—as composable libraries.
• Take ownership of the security posture for shared dependencies—ensure foundational libraries are up-to-date, address vulnerabilities, and deliver secure defaults.
• Engage in architectural governance—propose, review, and guide RFCs that shape the direction of the services ecosystem.
• Serve as an advocate and consultant—be a trusted advisor to engineering teams using shared libraries; assist them in making sound architectural decisions, resolve integration challenges, and relay their needs back to the platform.
• Collaborate with Data Services, Infrastructure, SRE, and Observability—your libraries are built on top of their platforms; foster strong working relationships to ensure shared libraries align with operational realities.
• Manage the systems you build—participate in on-call rotations, handle production triage, and leverage operational insights to enhance the libraries.
• Extensive expertise in Go—experience building production libraries or frameworks, or significant experience designing APIs and abstractions used by other engineering teams.
• In-depth knowledge of distributed systems—practical experience with message brokers, data stores, service communication frameworks, and the failure modes associated with distributed architectures.
• Sensibility in library and API design—you grasp backward compatibility, versioning, migration paths, and the elements that make an API appealing to developers.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure—substantial experience with at least one major cloud provider, ideally involving multi-region or multi-cloud strategies.
• Operational maturity—responsibility for production reliability for systems you have built, managing and debugging incidents under pressure, and leveraging those experiences for improvements.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, with significant time spent in platform, infrastructure, or developer tools.
• Demonstrated experience in utilizing AI technologies to improve decision-making, optimize workflows and processes, enhance efficiency, and drive business outcomes.
• Competitive compensation and equity awards, positioning us as a market leader.
• Comprehensive wellness programs focusing on physical and mental health.
• Generous vacation and holiday policies for recharging.
• Paid parental and adoption leave options.
• Professional development opportunities available for all employees, regardless of their level or role.
• Employee networks, community groups, and volunteer opportunities to foster connections.
• A vibrant office culture featuring world-class amenities.
• Certified as a Great Place to Work™ globally.
