Software Engineer II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with our mobile team as their backend representative — developing the APIs, services, and data layers that support the iOS and Android applications.

• Create and implement backend systems and REST APIs for a HIPAA-compliant patient portal within the behavioral health sector.

• Assume responsibility for complex features from start to finish — covering architecture through to deployment.

• Participate in system design discussions and elevate the technical standards across the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in building production applications using Python/Django or comparable technology stacks.

• Strong systems thinker: considers distributed state, failure modes, and long-term design trade-offs — beyond just feature delivery.

• Profound SQL and data modeling skills — including migrations, query optimization, and schema design.

• Experience with distributed systems: asynchronous workflows, event-driven architecture, and message queues.

• Proficiency in AWS services — such as Lambda, SQS, SNS, or their equivalents.

• Capable of navigating ambiguous requirements, asking insightful questions, and clearly identifying trade-offs.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) as part of daily work.

• Previous experience in healthcare or other heavily regulated fields (Nice to have).

• Experience with EHR or third-party platform integrations (Nice to have).

• Desire to advance towards a technical leadership role (Nice to have).
