This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend systems, services, and APIs that support Upstart Bank initiatives.
• Deliver high-quality software while collaborating with senior engineers on medium to large engineering projects.
• Convert business, operational, and regulatory requirements into reliable and maintainable software solutions.
• Enhance system reliability, observability, and operational excellence across backend services.
• Engage in technical design discussions while advancing engineering expertise and technical ownership.
• Work closely with Product, Compliance, Legal, Risk, Finance, Operations, and Engineering teams to provide high-quality software.
• Maintain a high engineering standard through careful implementation, testing, code reviews, and operational ownership.
• Exhibit curiosity, adaptability, and a desire to learn while contributing to a growing engineering organization.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Over 2 years of software engineering experience.
• Proven experience in building production backend or full-stack software systems.
• Familiarity with APIs, backend services, or web applications.
• Proficient in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, or similar.
• Strong engineering principles in software design, testing, debugging, and operational ownership.
• Ability to function effectively in ambiguous, cross-functional environments.
