Software Engineer – AI/HPC Middleware

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance functionalities for HPC middleware (HPI and SHMEM) and AI middleware (CCL stacks, such as NCCL/RCCL and associated collective communication libraries).

• Aid in the integration of middleware capabilities with the foundational transports and provider layers, including libfabric / OFI and UCX.

• Prepare and submit upstream contributions to MPI/SHMEM projects, CCL ecosystems, and related components.

• Work collaboratively with kernel/driver and switch teams to ensure end-to-end performance is in line with the Cornelis product roadmap.

• Evaluate performance traces and replicate customer issues.

• Help translate findings into effective solutions.

• Expand expertise across drivers/kernel, switches, systems, and application/framework teams.

• Contribute to features, testing, and upstream open-source initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in systems programming using C/C++ on Linux.

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Exposure to or experience with HPC middleware, such as MPI/SHMEM.

• Exposure to or experience with AI collective communication libraries, such as NCCL/RCCL and CUDA/ROCm, and/or other CCL stacks.

• Familiarity with performance concepts and the ability to diagnose issues using profiling/tracing tools, or a strong willingness to learn.

• Basic understanding of networking and/or RDMA concepts.

• Experience contributing to open-source projects is preferred.

• Familiarity with libfabric providers is preferred.

• Understanding of Ultra Ethernet (UEC/UET) specifications is preferred.

• Experience with RoCEv2, congestion control, and/or Ethernet-based RDMA deployments is preferred.

• Experience with benchmarking, profiling, and optimization is preferred.

• Background with Omni-Path/OPX or Ethernet-based HPC fabrics is preferred.
