This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Define the architecture and advancement of scalable, modular, and secure software platforms for T&D configuration systems, which encompass tools for device configuration, substation engineering, and grid automation workflows.
• Establish technical strategy and supervise the design of cloud-native platforms utilizing modern frameworks (.NET, Java, Python, TypeScript) that facilitate desktop, edge, and cloud deployments, with a focus on performance, resilience, and maintainability.
• Propel the integration of IEC 61850 engineering workflows (SCL-based ICD, SCD, SSD) into user-friendly, automated tooling ecosystems that align with contemporary UI/UX, API design, and utility integration needs.
• Guarantee cross-functional alignment by acting as the authority between firmware, UI/UX, and power systems teams, fostering coherent system design and tight integration between engineering workflows and device functionality.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems, and hardware architects to provide secure, compliant solutions for critical infrastructure, incorporating secure development lifecycle (SDLC) and DevSecOps practices.
• Promote the reuse of software components across product lines to enhance platform consistency, minimize duplication, and expedite development.
• Oversee the development and lifecycle management of configuration and commissioning tools for protection and control devices, ensuring smooth integration with SCADA/DMS/EMS and other utility systems.
• Conduct software and architecture reviews, ensuring adherence to industry standards (IEC 61850, IEC 61968/70, CIM, IEC 62351) and manage the entire software development lifecycle from requirements to deployment and support.
• Collaborate with architects, systems engineers, and utility clients to define and deliver customer-focused, technically robust solutions that enhance the reliability, visibility, and flexibility of grid systems.
• Stay informed on emerging technologies (cloud-native services, model-driven engineering, AI/ML) for relevance to the T&D domain and contribute to technology roadmaps, product strategy, and intellectual property generation through patents, whitepapers, and technical forums.
• Mentor and guide software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation, while representing the organization in customer engagements, RFPs, and industry events.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in software engineering, including a background in technical leadership or software architecture roles.
• A proven history of designing and delivering software solutions for T&D systems, energy automation, or industrial control sectors.
• Expertise in utility standards and protocols: IEC 61850, CIM, IEC 61968/70, and IEC 62351.
• Strong proficiency in modern technologies (.NET, Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript), UI frameworks, backend systems, and containerized/cloud deployments.
• Knowledge of data modeling, API integration, network communications, and cybersecurity practices.
• Familiarity with configuration management systems, substation design tools, and integration with SCADA/DMS/EMS platforms is highly desirable.
• Exceptional leadership and communication abilities, with the capacity to influence across both technical and business teams.
• Experience operating within a matrixed global organization and managing distributed engineering teams.
• A strong analytical and problem-solving mindset centered on customer value and quality outcomes.
• Thought leadership demonstrated through publications, participation in standards, or speaking at conferences.
• Willingness to travel for important customer engagements, internal collaboration, or industry events.
• Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
