This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Design, develop, integrate, and maintain low-level CPU software for Arista products.
• Create automated tests using C, C++, and Python to ensure the validation of your features.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers and vendors to qualify new CPUs and associated components for integration into Arista products.
• Monitor ongoing developments in the Linux Kernel to identify features and functionalities relevant to Arista’s product and internal development requirements.
• Engage with upstream open source BIOS communities to contribute enhancements back to the mainline.
• Review and provide input on functional and design specifications authored by other engineers.
• Partner with Customer Support Engineers and clients to analyze, address, and resolve issues within customer networks.
• Collaborate with System Test Engineers to diagnose problems identified in their tests and deliver appropriate solutions.
• Offer technical leadership across various features, projects, and tools.
• Mentor new and junior engineers to acclimate them to Arista’s software development environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 8 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 6 years of experience, or a Ph.D. with 3 years of experience, or equivalent work experience.
• Proficient in C programming with extensive experience required.
• Knowledge of C++ and Python is advantageous.
• Experience in designing and developing software within CPU firmware, BIOS, and boot loader settings.
• Familiarity with the process of bringing up new CPU boards.
• Significant hands-on experience in diagnosing problems, troubleshooting issues, and resolving bugs in low-level CPU firmware, BIOS, and boot loader software.
• Desirable familiarity with Linux kernel architecture, design, and implementation.
• Understanding of IP networking architecture, design, and principles is preferred.
• Applied knowledge of modern software engineering principles and practices.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Excellent software design and implementation skills.
• Capability to work independently as well as in small teams.
• Ability to communicate clearly and document designs and implementations in a concise manner.
• Familiarity with and experience in working with x86 and ARM CPU architectures.
