Senior Wetland Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• At scale mapping: create, enhance, and sustain versioned wetland maps that span large regional to national areas.

• Cloud-native geospatial solutions: design and execute mapping and modeling workflows utilizing cloud-native geospatial tools, formats, and storage solutions.

• Wetland modeling: execute, modify, and advance current and new models for assessing wetland potential as well as determining wetland boundaries and extents.

• Data integration: amalgamate LiDAR-derived elevation, hydrology, imagery, soils, and existing wetland inventories into reproducible modeling workflows.

• Validation & QA: establish validation methods using reference data, measure uncertainty, and ensure quality control of wetland maps for precision and consistency.

• Communication: document methodologies and results, contribute to reports and proposals, and collaborate with the Platform, Modeling, and Applications teams to scale and enhance your products.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in wetland science, ecology, geography, environmental or earth science, hydrology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

• Approximately 5+ years of pertinent experience, or a PhD with a few years of relevant work experience.

• Proven experience in mapping wetlands, land cover, or similar features at a broad spatial scale.

• Practical experience with cloud-native geospatial tools, formats, and workflows.

• Experience in implementing or adapting geospatial or ecological models (wetland potential, habitat, boundaries, and extents, or similar models).

• Proficiency in Python and/or R for conducting geospatial analysis, with strong coding and reproducibility practices.
