This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Execute UX design tasks across various program workstreams, creating discovery artifacts, user flows, wireframes, low and high fidelity prototypes, and usability testing plans in Figma utilizing federal Design System components.
• Act as a subject matter expert on accessibility tools and methods, annotating Figma designs with keyboard navigation, ARIA patterns, focus management, and screen reader labels prior to sprint planning.
• Carry out stakeholder interviews, workflow observations, usability testing, and competitive analysis, synthesizing insights into actionable artifacts such as personas, journey maps, storyboards, and research reports.
• Create and implement design test cases and test plans to ensure validation of designs against WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 compliance standards.
• Contribute to the Design System component library, suggesting new patterns and visual design artifacts through the established governance workflow in collaboration with senior designers and frontend engineers.
• Work alongside engineers, QA, product owners, and accessibility specialists to confirm designs for technical feasibility and Section 508 compliance before sprint commitment.
• Develop and deliver engaging artifacts and presentations that convert complex regulatory and policy requirements into clear, user-centered design solutions for federal stakeholders.
• Engage in iterative design activities including participatory design sessions, design critiques, and analysis and synthesis working sessions.
• Actively collaborate with Senior Designers, remaining open to mentorship while also guiding junior designers with constructive, growth-oriented feedback.
• Recognize design risks and communicate recommendations to mitigate them to program leadership.
• May oversee accessibility tasks including Section 508 compliance and emerging accessibility standards.
• A minimum of 4 years of relevant UX and product design experience along with a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent additional experience in lieu of a degree.
• Must fulfill federal suitability requirements and successfully pass a background investigation as a condition of employment.
• Proficient in Figma for wireframing, prototyping, and contributing to the Design System.
• Proven subject matter expertise in accessibility tools and techniques, including Axe, pa11y, ANDI, JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver.
• Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 compliance standards, with the capability to develop design test cases and plans aligned with accessibility requirements.
• Experience in conducting user research such as stakeholder interviews, usability testing, task analysis, and conceptual modeling.
• Competence in producing user requirements specifications, personas, storyboards, scenarios, flowcharts, design prototypes, and design specifications.
• Ability to clearly communicate research findings and design rationale to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience working in agile or SAFe delivery environments, integrating design efforts into sprint-based development timelines.
• Familiarity with Miro, Adobe Creative Suite, or other collaborative design and research tools.
