Senior Staff Software Engineer – STCE

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead significant "Big Rock" projects by transitioning between the Smart Trailers and Connected Equipment teams based on the most urgent business priorities.

• Propel "Step Functions": As a Senior Staff Engineer, your role goes beyond merely delivering features; you are responsible for initiating substantial advancements in architecture and product capabilities that enhance team performance.

• Adopt a Product Manager mindset: We prefer not to utilize extensive PRDs. You are expected to engage directly with customers, grasp their challenges, and actively work towards viable solutions.

• Deliver at the "Speed of Thought" utilizing AI: We are transforming our engineering culture to prioritize AI. You will spearhead the initiative to leverage LLMs and AI agents to automate routine tasks, allowing you to concentrate on high-level problem-solving.

• Optimize across the entire Stack: You will work alongside firmware and hardware teams to address cross-functional challenges, such as achieving a balance between real-time visibility and energy efficiency.

• Lead with humility: You will guide engineers in a high-ownership culture where the most effective idea prevails, irrespective of titles.

• Advocate for Technical Integrity: Collaborate with Engineering Management to find a balance between long-term technical sustainability and immediate customer successes.

• Serve as a Cultural Force Multiplier: Promote Samsara’s core principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset) as we expand globally.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 12 years of experience in software design and development, with a minimum of 4 years in an architect or leadership capacity.

• Technical Independence: You proactively determine the necessary actions without waiting for instructions, demonstrating the conviction to define tasks and overcome obstacles to achieve them.

• Modern Engineering Workflow: Proficient in crafting high-quality, maintainable code in contemporary programming languages, with a proven ability to utilize AI tools (Cursor, LLMs, etc.) to enhance productivity.

• Cloud Scale Expertise: Demonstrated experience working with web services at large scale on Cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.

• Communication: Exceptional collaboration and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of handling complex technical discussions with stakeholders from Legal, Hardware, and Product teams.

• A "Founder-Engineer" mindset: You have developed and launched a 0-1 product from the ground up and successfully navigated the complexities of scaling it into a significant business driver.

• Applied AI Power-User: You have fully adopted an AI-native workflow to "code at the speed of thought."
