Senior Staff Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Lead Through Execution: Spearhead significant technical projects from design to production, enhancing scalability, reliability, and accuracy across vital systems.

• Build Distributed Systems: Create and advance backend services, APIs, event-driven workflows, and data models that facilitate intricate business processes at scale.

• Own Critical Platform Infrastructure: Enhance the operational backbone of the platform through improved observability, testing, deployment safety, and reduction of incidents.

• Solve Complex Workflow Problems: Develop systems capable of managing long-running workflows, asynchronous processing, consistency guarantees, and failure recovery in high-stakes settings.

• Work Across Teams: Drive initiatives that encompass engineering, product, data, commercial, and machine learning teams - ensuring stakeholder alignment and removing delivery obstacles.

• Productionise Machine Learning: Partner with ML and data teams to seamlessly incorporate forecasting, optimization, and pricing models into production environments.

• Raise Engineering Standards: Guide senior engineers, shape architectural direction, and enhance engineering practices throughout the organization.

• Design for Scale: Proactively identify scaling challenges before they arise - boosting throughput, resilience, and platform evolution as the business expands.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong Technical Leadership: You've worked at the Staff or Senior Staff level and have successfully led technically intricate initiatives with significant business impact.

• Distributed Systems Expertise: Extensive experience in designing and managing scalable backend systems, event-driven architectures, APIs, and asynchronous workflows.

• Hands-On Engineering Depth: You still take pleasure in coding directly - writing production-level code, evaluating designs, troubleshooting systems, and enhancing architecture.

• Modern Backend Experience: Solid expertise with technologies such as:

• - Python

• - AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB)

• - Event-driven/serverless architectures

• - Distributed systems and workflow orchestration

• Systems Thinking: You are adept at contemplating correctness, failure modes, data consistency, scalability, and operational trade-offs in complex systems.

• Cross-Functional Influence: You can harmonize technical decisions with product, commercial, and customer outcomes while effectively navigating ambiguity.

• Pragmatic Problem-Solving: You relish the challenge of untangling complex technical and organizational issues using first-principles thinking.
