This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Take charge of the long-term technical strategy for our tools, serving as GEICO’s orchestration platform for failover, rebuild, and restore workflows.
• Define and enhance orchestration patterns that can scale across various application architectures and levels of maturity.
• Make architectural trade-offs that balance reliability, operability, and the costs associated with adoption.
• Act as the primary technical escalation point for intricate orchestration and recovery failures.
• Set clear standards for modeling failures, retries, timeouts, and compensations.
• Promote consistency in how teams design and implement recovery workflows.
• Identify systemic reliability threats and lead cross-organizational initiatives to address them.
• Collaborate with SRE, infrastructure, and platform teams to ensure alignment of our tools with enterprise reliability objectives.
• Influence teams that are not under your direct supervision through effective technical reasoning and trusted leadership.
• Establish expectations and agreements between our tools and provider systems to clarify responsibility for failures.
• Mentor Staff and Senior engineers in concepts of distributed systems and fault-tolerant design.
• Serve as a technical ambassador for our tools with leadership and peer organizations.
• Help balance feature development, support for adoption, and production stability in line with your team's capacity.
• Over 10 years of experience in constructing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• In-depth expertise in fault tolerance, resilience, and recovery design.
• Proven experience in providing technical leadership at the organizational level beyond a single team.
• Strong capability to analyze and design for partial failures.
• Experience in shaping shared platforms or frameworks utilized by multiple teams.
• Preferred experience with durable execution or workflow orchestration.
• Practical experience in designing recovery, failover, or disaster-recovery workflows.
• A history of addressing adoption challenges faced by platform teams.
• Ability to translate low-level technical risks into clear business and reliability outcomes.
