
Senior Staff Data Engineer – Platform Data and Analytics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Strategically plan and implement technology projects that align with Faire’s expansion; spearhead architecture development with an emphasis on data integrity, security, performance, scalability, reliability, and monitoring/alerting.
• Collaborate with the team on planning and prioritization, effectively balancing immediate demands with long-term objectives.
• Offer technical direction and mentorship on the most challenging open-ended issues we encounter. This includes cost-effective computing and storage solutions, ETL and ELT pipelines, data ingestion and warehousing, as well as monitoring, alerting, and cost management for workloads, design practices for essential assets, and considerations for data security, privacy, and governance.
• Proven experience in designing, developing, and managing data streaming, batch processing, ETL/ELT, orchestration, storage, compute, and workflow systems at scale.
• Expertise in defining architectural patterns and constructing reliable, scalable data pipelines, as well as orchestrating data movement, querying, transformation, and frameworks for analytics engineering workflows.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, along with relevant experience.
• Experience with data warehousing at a Petabyte scale.
• Familiarity with Snowflake, Airflow, and Spark is particularly advantageous.
• Solid understanding of performance, capacity, and cost trade-offs in data processing systems, with experience in guiding technical and product teams on these trade-offs.
• Background in diagnosing, addressing, and permanently resolving production issues within data systems at scale, along with experience in implementing strategies for workload performance and cost optimization.
• Experience working within a growth-stage organization, with a data function comprising multiple teams and over 60 members, enabling teams to function in a self-service model.
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and influencing abilities.
• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
