Senior / Staff Analytics Engineer

Posted Jun 20

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• dbt at Fora encompasses project structure, conventions, CI/CD, testing, contracts, documentation, and performance optimization.

• Development of data models across bronze, silver, and gold layers.

• Management of the semantic layer (dbt MetricFlow or equivalent): defining metrics, dimensions, governance, and ensuring adoption.

• Overseeing the production operation of the transformation layer, including jobs, dependencies, failures, retries, alerts, environments, and release hygiene.

• Utilizing Python for validation, dbt utilities, lightweight automation, and various integrations.

• Ensuring data quality, test coverage, and observability for modeled tables.

• Collaborating with Risk & Analytics to formalize business metrics that are currently distributed across SQL, Tableau, and analyst knowledge.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with dbt. You have deployed and managed dbt as production software, rather than just a SQL wrapper, and have strong opinions about structure, macros, packages, tests, contracts, and CI.

• Solid fundamentals in dimensional and event-based modeling, including star schemas, conformed dimensions, slowly changing dimensions, point-in-time logic, grain discipline, and event-based modeling.

• Experience with the semantic layer. You have constructed or managed metric definitions as code utilizing MetricFlow, LookML, Cube, AtScale, or similar tools.

• Proficiency in Python for production analytics, including API pulls, validation scripts, data quality checks, dbt utilities, lightweight automation, and debugging. SQL-only skills are insufficient.

• Familiarity with orchestration concepts, including DAGs, dependencies, retries, alerts, incremental processing, logs, SLAs, and deployment environments.

• Proficient in Git: understanding branches, rebases, conflict resolution, and maintaining a meaningful commit history.

• Excellent stakeholder communication skills. You can articulate trade-offs, diplomatically decline requests, and uphold standards while fostering trust.

• Strong writing abilities. You produce useful pull requests, comprehensive documentation, and decision records that others can easily follow.

• An AI-native curiosity. You are actively exploring how LLMs, MCP, and governed semantic layers transform analytics workflows, and you seek to apply that knowledge responsibly.

• A minimum of 3 years of analytics engineering experience for Senior positions; 6 years for Staff roles. Level is determined by scope of ownership, technical judgment, and the capacity to set direction independently.

🏝️ Benefits
