This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Take ownership of the data tier that supports the platform, which includes denormalized read models and snapshot tables for efficient, low-latency patient views.
• Optimize queries and indexes by utilizing execution plans and the Query Store while handling production-level data volumes.
• Develop and manage ETL processes, change data capture, and delta refresh pipelines across various sources such as EHR, HIE, claims, and pharmacy data.
• Establish and communicate data freshness service levels along with accurate as-of dates for each data source.
• Create and implement shared cohort and risk-scoring data layers to ensure consistent values across all consuming interfaces.
• Manage de-identification and synthetic data generation to maintain offshore development environments devoid of protected health information.
• Execute versioned, gated database migrations through Flyway or a similar CI-integrated tool.
• Develop data quality and reconciliation checks to identify broken feeds before outdated data impacts clinicians.
• Collaborate with the architect on SQL Server workload management, incorporating Resource Governor and readable secondary routing.
• Act as the primary data-engineering owner and escalation point while working alongside clients and cross-functional teams.
• A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Native or bilingual proficiency in both written and spoken English; daily communication with clients is essential.
• Over 6 years of experience in professional data engineering or database engineering, specifically with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL.
• Advanced T-SQL expertise, including proficiency with window functions, set-based rewriting of procedural logic, and query plan-aware design.
• Mastery in index design encompassing covering, filtered, and columnstore indexes, along with proven results in production-volume tuning.
• Strong skills in execution plan analysis and hands-on experience with Query Store, Extended Events, Resource Governor, and readable secondaries.
• Experience in designing denormalized read models, snapshot tables, and materialized aggregates to facilitate low-latency read paths.
• Familiarity with Flyway or an equivalent versioned migration tool within a CI pipeline.
• Knowledge of healthcare data, including claims, HIE feeds, pharmacy or Surescripts data, and techniques for PHI de-identification.
• Working knowledge of .NET and C# sufficient for reviewing and influencing the data access layer.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and customer relationship management skills.
• Experience with Redis or another distributed cache is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Data Factory, or Databricks is a plus.
