This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Assess and improve the safety and reliability of autonomous trucking systems.
• Collaborate closely with functional safety and system engineers to ensure that SOTIF targets are met throughout the autonomous vehicle development process.
• Lead SOTIF evaluations and direct engineers to fulfill SOTIF acceptance criteria.
• Engage with AI-ML engineers and software developers to guarantee the safety of Torc solutions.
• Identify functional deficiencies and triggering conditions, delivering risk assessments (HIRE analysis) and proposing safety enhancements.
• Specify areas for design improvement and work alongside design teams to refine system specifications.
• Assess the completeness of design specifications to verify they comply with SOTIF maturity standards.
• Derive acceptance criteria for S>0, C>0 analysis and facilitate discussions regarding necessary functional modifications.
• Establish verification and validation targets for both known and unknown safety scenarios.
• Assist in SOTIF-related operational strategies, ensuring the secure deployment of autonomous vehicles.
• Relay SOTIF achievement metrics and risk assessments to management and key stakeholders.
• Partner with systems design and architecture teams to ensure the integration of SOTIF considerations into autonomous trucking specifications.
• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field with 6+ years of relevant experience.
• In-depth knowledge of automotive, heavy-duty truck, or aerospace products and industries.
• Proficiency in ISO 21448 (SOTIF), ISO-PAS 8800 (Safety and AI), ISO 26262 (Functional Safety) with a demonstrated history of applying these standards in complex engineering contexts.
• Exceptional project management and leadership abilities, capable of advancing safety initiatives across cross-functional teams.
• Strong analytical capabilities to evaluate risks, derive safety requirements, and establish verification & validation strategies.
• Highly organized and adept at managing multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across engineering teams and leadership.
• Detail-oriented, self-driven, and proficient in working independently while leading discussions and influencing stakeholders.
• Comfortable navigating an environment characterized by ambiguity and rapid change, with the capacity to quickly adapt and make informed safety decisions.
• Ability to ethically manage sensitive and confidential information with neutrality and professionalism.
