Senior Software Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain software and systems to enhance the availability, scalability, and efficiency of Thumbtack's services.

• Establish the architectural vision for infrastructure and platform services while providing support to the engineering team.

• Create and implement tools and processes for deployment, change management, service management, and infrastructure management.

• Diagnose and resolve critical system issues throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

• Contribute to the advancement and optimization of capabilities offered to engineering as part of the platform organization.

• Engage in capacity planning and demand forecasting, proactively identifying potential performance bottlenecks.

• Participate in rotating on-call responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• In-depth knowledge and proficiency in AWS and Linux.

• Competence in reading, writing, and debugging code in various programming languages, including but not limited to: Python, Go, PHP, and Javascript.

• Proven expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems utilizing web technologies such as DNS, TLS, HTTP/S, and TCP/IP.

• Ability to break down complex problems while recognizing the necessary tradeoffs to achieve impactful results.

• At least 5 years of experience in managing infrastructure and systems.

• Demonstrated knowledge in instrumenting, operating, and monitoring a distributed system of microservices within a production cloud environment.

• Strong communication skills to effectively engage with cross-functional partners across various technical levels.

• A genuine passion for minimizing toil and enhancing the developer experience.
