Senior Software Engineer – Newsela Writing Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Argentina.

📋 Description

• Develop full-stack features that deliver measurable impact on the product.

• Offer comprehensive code reviews and architectural insights, beyond mere approvals.

• Act as the primary responder for production issues during working hours: assess, identify root causes, and suggest preventive measures.

• Enhance the engineering practices within the team over time: improve tooling, establish effective workflows, set technical standards, and maintain documentation where work is conducted.

• Convert product requirements into a technical strategy and articulate the reasoning behind it.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in developing production web applications, showcasing a robust full-stack proficiency (modern React/TypeScript frontends alongside a typed or Pythonic backend).

• Proven ability to take ownership of ambiguous challenges from start to finish and deliver solutions with measurable outcomes.

• Significant history of conducting code reviews, including examples where architectural issues were identified.

• Daily engagement with AI coding tools (like Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or similar) along with a well-defined perspective on their benefits, drawbacks, and methods to ensure their outputs are reviewable.

• Proficiency in debugging production issues across the stack: including traces, logs, profiling, and other less glamorous aspects.

• Excellent asynchronous written communication skills: including clear pull request descriptions, effective Slack messages, and precise specifications.
