Senior Software Engineer – Interop

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain backend services and APIs that access and process patient records from EHRs and health systems, utilizing FHIR (R4) and associated interoperability standards.

• Create and enhance interoperability workflows that facilitate Release of Information (ROI) use cases, including patient identity matching, record discovery, data retrieval, and downstream delivery.

• Integrate with external healthcare systems, EHR vendors, and health information networks through FHIR, RESTful APIs, and event-driven patterns.

• Collaborate across contemporary .NET services and existing platforms, modernizing legacy integrations as appropriate.

• Take ownership of technical roadmaps for interoperability components, balancing reliability, scalability, compliance, and delivery speed.

• Utilize AI coding tools on a daily basis to expedite development—generating code, debugging, refactoring, and navigating unfamiliar healthcare-focused codebases.

• Scrutinize AI-generated output with the same rigor applied to any production code—comprehending its output rather than simply accepting it.

• Produce clean, testable, well-documented code with a strong focus on observability and operational readiness.

• Lead code reviews and assist in maintaining engineering standards across backend services and integrations.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across distributed systems, including third-party integrations and external dependencies.

• Collaborate with product, operations, and compliance teams to convert healthcare and ROI requirements into technical solutions.

• Identify risks related to data quality, external system dependencies, and interoperability constraints before they escalate into incidents.

• Mentor fellow engineers, particularly in the areas of healthcare integrations and backend service design.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software development experience, demonstrating growth in the complexity and scope of problems you have addressed.

• Strong expertise in the Microsoft stack (C#, .NET Framework / .NET 6+, ASP.NET Web API, ASP.NET MVC, Entity Framework, SQL Server).

• Experience in building and managing API-driven, distributed systems in live environments.

• Direct experience with healthcare interoperability, particularly with FHIR-based integrations.

• Solid understanding of relational data modeling, SQL performance, and data consistency in integration-intensive systems.

• Experience integrating with third-party systems where reliability, error handling, and observability are paramount.

• Proven automated testing practices across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.

• Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows.

• Experience deploying and managing services in AWS or Azure environments.

• Strong understanding of CI/CD and DevOps methodologies.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Active daily engagement with AI coding tools integrated into your development process—not just occasional inquiries to a chatbot, but using AI as a core component in writing, reviewing, and deploying code.

• Capability to critically assess AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability.

• Experience providing AI tools with meaningful context (access to codebases, architectural restrictions, project conventions) to enhance output quality.
