This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Managing and enhancing over 100 multi-cloud streaming clusters and associated database infrastructure.
• Identifying and resolving cross-layer failure issues (such as object storage latency, noisy neighbors, control-plane bottlenecks, and query performance regressions).
• Crafting safe upgrade and rollout strategies on a large scale.
• Advancing observability, automation, and operational ergonomics.
• Collaborating closely with database and platform teams to ensure secure scaling, partitioning, consumer fan-out, and query performance.
• Engaging directly with the behavior of distributed systems, Kubernetes scheduling dynamics, storage engines, and compression trade-offs.
• Acting as a primary escalation point and being on-call for relevant incidents.
• Managing relationships with all system vendors, including WarpStream Labs and others.
• Over 6 years of engineering experience, including significant time in SRE, platform engineering, production engineering, infrastructure engineering, or distributed systems roles.
• Experience in operating distributed systems in production environments (for instance, streaming systems, analytical databases, and large-scale storage backends). Examples include Kafka, Redpanda, WarpStream, Postgres, ClickHouse, Snowflake, or Cassandra.
• Strong expertise in Kubernetes within AWS, GCP, or Azure, along with familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (such as Helm, Terraform, Jsonnet, etc.).
• Solid grasp of distributed systems design and large-scale system trade-offs.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Go is preferred, but not mandatory).
• Working knowledge of Linux internals, networking, cloud storage, and performance/scaling behavior.
• Experience in participating in blameless incident response and producing high-quality post-incident reviews.
• Excellent communicator capable of collaborating across teams and working independently.
