Senior Software Engineer – Data Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop, construct, and manage our core data-intensive services: storage solutions (cloud data warehouse, data lake), orchestration tools (Airflow), batch processing frameworks (Spark, SQL), streaming platforms (Kafka), query federation and caching, time-series databases, graph databases, and real-time event aggregation systems.

• Create and sustain data integration and processing SDKs for utilization by internal services and product teams across Coinbase.

• Design and implement self-service applications that enable our users to oversee and troubleshoot their own data pipelines operating on our platforms.

• Architect and develop services for comprehensive data security and observability: overseeing access controls across various storage and access layers, monitoring data quality, cataloging datasets and their lineage, and conducting usage audits.

• Transform functional requests from data analysts, machine learning, and security & compliance into reusable and scalable frameworks; and integrate data microservices into data platforms tailored for essential business sectors and user groups.

⛳️ Requirements

• You possess a minimum of 5+ years of experience in software engineering.

• You have strong backend development skills in Python, Go, or Java.

• You have a general understanding of data systems or data pipeline operations.

• You are knowledgeable about design patterns such as scale-out, caching, key/value, and columnar.

• You utilize SQL, Python, Airflow, and BI expertise to derive operational insights from data.

• You demonstrate the capability to responsibly utilize generative AI tools and copilots (e.g., LibreChat, Gemini, Glean) in everyday workflows, adapt to evolving tools, and apply human-in-the-loop methodologies to deliver actionable outputs that enhance efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality.
