Senior Software Engineer – Core Services

Posted Jul 18

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement essential platform services using Kotlin, creating the abstractions mentioned earlier across various infrastructure targets.

• Address complex integration issues at the intersection of platform software and virtualization infrastructure.

• Collaborate with Staff and Principal Engineers to make architectural choices.

• Take full ownership of features and components from design through implementation, testing, and operational deployment.

• Assist other engineering teams that rely on Core Services APIs and abstractions.

• Recognize and lead the resolution of performance bottlenecks, reliability challenges, and technical debt within the Core Services stack.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong bilingual proficiency in both English and Spanish is required for written, virtual, and in-person communication.

• Experienced software engineer with more than 5 years in building backend services and platform-level software, excluding application-layer or frontend work.

• Proficient in Kotlin or a similar JVM language (Java, Scala), with a solid grasp of JVM fundamentals, concurrency patterns, and contemporary language features.

• Comfortable operating at the systems level — you comprehend how software interacts with infrastructure, networking, and virtualization layers, and can analyze issues that cross those boundaries.

• Familiarity with VMware or hypervisor technologies is a significant advantage. Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) or private cloud platforms (OpenStack, Proxmox) is also beneficial.

• Strong understanding of distributed systems principles — including service communication patterns, consistency tradeoffs, and failure management in environments with unpredictable external dependencies.

• Strong API design sensibility — you consider contracts, versioning, backward compatibility, and the developer experience for teams utilizing your services.

• Proven ability to work independently on complex issues, translating ambiguous requirements into clear implementation strategies without needing exhaustive details upfront.

• Effective communicator capable of clearly articulating technical tradeoffs, engaging constructively in design reviews, and fostering trust across teams through reliability and follow-through.

🏝️ Benefits

• Private medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits.

• Access to company-sponsored counseling, coaching, and resources for you and your family through Spring Health.

• Paid leave policies to support you and your loved ones during significant life events.

• Equity stock options available upon hire, along with annual performance-based grants—become an invested stakeholder in our mutual success.

• Access to a LinkedIn Learning membership to enhance your personal and professional development.
