This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Establish the technical direction for backend development while designing and constructing scalable, reliable web application systems.
• Oversee and evaluate the output of AI coding agents, ensuring engineering quality is upheld.
• Promote the adoption of new languages, tools, and agentic development practices within the team.
• Develop code that has a direct impact on customers and future product offerings.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to influence product direction and interact directly with customers.
• Possess a solid understanding of the healthcare claims and payments sector.
• Build production-quality services using Java, Scala, and/or Rust; contribute to standards and mentor team members.
• Act as the backend representative in cross-team planning and facilitate cross-functional execution.
• Contribute to the development of complex in-browser applications, ensuring they are extensible, scalable, and secure.
• Balance the development of customer-facing features with the need to manage technical debt.
• Design and implement applications that utilize ML techniques on large datasets.
• Create systems that ensure performant and reliable application delivery.
• Integrate agentic engineering practices into daily team operations and foster their adoption.
• Over 10 years of experience in backend programming; additional full-stack experience is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and launching customer-facing web application products.
• Significant experience with Java or Scala; proficiency in Rust is highly valued.
• Proven experience in designing, building, and managing distributed systems on cloud services at scale, ensuring high throughput and availability.
• Ability to create Technical Design Documents that clarify ambiguous product intentions into precise backend designs.
• A product- and user-oriented mindset.
• Strong ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering colleagues, senior PMs, ML/DS partners, and leadership.
• A practical approach with solid systems instincts and root-cause analysis skills.
• Hands-on experience using agentic engineering tools and workflows in a production environment.
• Ability to read and comprehend complex code, take ownership of code quality, and enhance it.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in a dynamic, high-stakes environment.
• Comfort with complexity and a curiosity to define the way forward.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
