Senior Software Engineer, Backend – Reliability Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and develop an advanced reliability platform for Affirm’s production systems.

• Take ownership and achieve quarterly objectives for the team.

• Guide engineers through uncertainty to address open-ended challenges and facilitate delivery.

• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics teams during the ideation and development phases.

• Clearly communicate technical constraints and collaborate on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs.

• Identify and lead the resolution of project, process, technology, and business challenges.

• Create and track metrics, escalate issues, and support operations, availability, maintenance, and on-call activities.

• Establish and enhance code review and design standards.

• Champion quality and ownership through writing and technical discussions.

• Foster team development through feedback, mentorship, and leading by example.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a software engineer.

• Proven experience in designing, developing, and deploying backend systems at scale.

• Familiarity with technologies such as Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.

• Experience in delivering web applications using declarative UI frameworks like React or Vue.

• Practical application of LLMs or AI frameworks for automation and guidance with appropriate guardrails and citations.

• Experience in defining technical plans for substantial features or system components with clean, simple, and extensible designs.

• Capability to write high-quality, comprehensible, and reusable code.

• Proficient in implementing significant changes within large codebases.

• Knowledge of tools and practices that facilitate safe modifications to large codebases.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration within a global engineering team.

• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
