Senior Software Engineer, Backend – API Integrations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Take full responsibility for the comprehensive technical integration between Reap and our partner, covering design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.

• Develop and manage bidirectional data flows: inbound (from partner to Reap: funding, settlement, account events) and outbound (from Reap to partner: card events, transaction data, reconciliation signals).

• Act as Reap's main technical liaison with the partner's engineering team, participating in sync meetings, reviewing API specifications, and ensuring alignment on integration contracts.

• Convert the partner's technical requirements and constraints into well-defined engineering tasks within Reap's systems.

• Work collaboratively with internal Reap teams—Card, Treasury, Onboarding, Compliance—to ensure integration requirements are accurately identified and met.

• Oversee integration health in production, managing incident responses for any integration-layer issues.

• Keep detailed integration documentation, including API contracts, data flow diagrams, runbooks, and change logs.

• Create a robust and fault-tolerant bidirectional integration architecture between Reap and our partner.

• Implement APIs, webhooks, event consumers, and data transformation layers.

• Ensure data consistency, idempotency, and auditability across integration boundaries.

• Develop test suites that cover integration contracts and various edge cases.

• Maintain a strong working relationship with the partner's engineering and product teams.

• Facilitate joint technical decision-making regarding integration patterns, versioning, and deprecation.

• Identify and address blockers and misalignments before they escalate into production issues.

• Collaborate with Card, Treasury, Onboarding, and Compliance engineers to fulfill integration dependencies.

• Represent the integration workstream during Reap's engineering planning and reviews.

• Manage observability for the integration layer, including dashboards, alerting, and SLA tracking.

• Lead incident response and post-mortem processes for integration-related challenges.

• Continuously enhance integration stability and minimize operational challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in backend software engineering.

• Demonstrated experience in building and managing production-grade API integrations with external partners or third-party systems.

• Strong grasp of integration patterns including REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven architecture, idempotency, retry logic, and error handling.

• Experience collaborating across organizational boundaries, particularly with partner or client engineering teams.

• Able to navigate ambiguity effectively, translating loosely defined requirements into tangible engineering solutions.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating technical decisions to both engineering and business stakeholders.
