Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Create and deploy foundational Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions to guarantee the secure and scalable functionality of Planet's services.

• Engage in significant platform modernization projects, encompassing a complete transition from outdated tools to innovative solutions.

• Oversee cloud-based infrastructure services, particularly our collection of Kubernetes clusters, and related tools to fulfill internal requirements and uphold customer-facing service level agreements.

• Improve and sustain observability for essential platform services, utilizing Grafana and other instruments to define Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and enhance operational readiness.

• Apply enhancements and features to core systems managed by the team, including GKE clusters, public API gateways, and other managed infrastructure solutions.

• Partner with software engineering teams to enhance the developer experience (DevEx) of our managed infrastructure.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a Platform Engineering, System Administration, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) position.

• Profound knowledge of Kubernetes, underlying compute systems, and Linux.

• Familiarity with public cloud platforms, especially Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS).

• Proficient with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab, ArgoCD), Configuration Management (e.g., Terraform, Crossplane), and GitOps principles.

• Capability to employ an operational mindset and troubleshooting expertise for intricate production environments.

• Experience in developing services in programming languages such as Go and Python using tools like Git, Docker, and CI/CD workflows.

• Background in creating services that utilize cloud-based infrastructure and tools like AWS or GCP.

• Strong collaboration skills with the ability to communicate designs and decisions clearly in both verbal and written forms.
