This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, develop, and maintain backend services that drive Forma's benefits platform, which includes APIs for account lifecycle management, transactions (claims, reimbursements, contributions), and member administration.
• Collaborate across React/TypeScript/NestJS services, contributing to the necessary codebase for the tasks at hand.
• Create and utilize event-driven integrations using Google Pub/Sub to ensure dependable communication between services.
• Write well-tested, production-ready code and take ownership of your services in a live environment, which includes on-call duties, monitoring (Datadog), and incident management.
• Work closely with product, operations, customer success teams, and engineers from various teams to deliver features that benefit members, customer administrators, and internal operations.
• Contribute to engineering standards, tools, and processes that facilitate faster and more reliable delivery from the team.
• Thoughtfully incorporate AI tools into your workflow, as we encourage engineers to utilize AI assistants to enhance development speed, improve code quality, and explore solutions more efficiently, all while maintaining strong judgment and accountability for the work produced.
• 2–5 years of professional experience in building backend services and APIs.
• Strong expertise in TypeScript/NestJS.
• Solid experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and migration tasks.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures or messaging systems (e.g., Pub/Sub, Kafka, SQS/SNS) is a significant advantage.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, with a preference for GCP, though experience with AWS or Azure is also relevant. Additional points for knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform, or CI/CD pipelines.
• Comfortable with observability tools (logging, metrics, alerting); we utilize Datadog, but similar platform experience is acceptable.
• Previous experience at a growth-stage startup, where balancing speed and quality was necessary.
• You prioritize understanding the WHY and are not hesitant to ask questions driven by curiosity.
• Experience in fintech, benefits, or HR technology is beneficial, particularly if you have dealt with financial transactions, compliance standards, or third-party integrations (e.g., Stripe, Plaid).
