Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain integrations with recognized energy protocols and specifications, including OpenADR, IEEE 2030.5, and associated smart grid/DER communication standards.

• Create and manage our client-facing REST API alongside the backend logic that supports it.

• Establish integrations with distributed internal services to simplify complexity and introduce new product functionalities.

• Ensure that robust security measures and data protection policies, procedures, and monitoring systems are implemented.

• Work collaboratively with product and engineering teams to consistently enhance requirements and software quality.

• Partner with other teams to enable new API features and assist them in leveraging utility client data.

• Revise the utility-facing Web portal to accommodate new integrations.

• Promote and exemplify the “Dev Owns Quality” ethos.

• Create and sustain technical documentation.

• Perform additional duties as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in software engineering.

• Proven experience in developing solutions based on industry energy specifications like OpenADR, IEEE 2030.5, OCPP, or related smart grid/DER communication standards.

• Proficiency with the Java/Spring technology stack.

• Strong expertise in RESTful web APIs, particularly those aimed at external clients.

• Excellent software design capabilities.

• Understanding of relational database principles (our primary database is PostgreSQL).

• Familiarity with contemporary security best practices, authentication/authorization frameworks, and system/API hardening techniques.

• Awareness of development best practices including automated testing, CI/CD, and monitoring tools (such as GitHub Actions, DataDog, Sentry, Metaplane).

• Capability to operate both independently and collaboratively, depending on the situation.
