This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +2 more states.
• Analyze and convert high-level customer, product, and business requirements into comprehensive technical designs that address intricate business challenges.
• Create solutions that are in line with the long-term strategy for a service, product, or platform, leveraging extensive technical expertise, customer insights, operational needs, and enterprise standards.
• Establish interfaces, service boundaries, data contracts, and integration patterns; produce high-quality code across products or services and influence architectural direction as necessary.
• Utilize modern AI-assisted development tools, coding agents, and agentic engineering workflows to expedite discovery, design, development, testing, documentation, refactoring, and operational troubleshooting.
• Exercise strong engineering judgment when utilizing AI-generated or agent-assisted outputs, including assessing correctness, security, maintainability, performance, licensing, and adherence to architectural standards.
• Decompose complex engineering tasks into clear, actionable items that can be executed by engineers and supported by AI/agentic tools when appropriate, while maintaining accountability for the final outcome.
• Ensure a consistent, usable, forward-thinking, and maintainable test infrastructure; implement automated testing, test generation, regression validation, and quality gates to enhance delivery speed and confidence.
• Identify code across multiple codebases to optimize, refactor, simplify, or reuse to enhance performance, maintainability, scalability, and return on investment.
• Oversee code reviews across the product or service, including evaluations of AI-assisted code contributions; pinpoint root causes of issues and drive practical, sustainable resolutions.
• Proactively detect performance, reliability, scalability, availability, and operational issues; troubleshoot and resolve production problems that may span multiple product areas or systems.
• Create and maintain clear architectural, technical, operational, and decision documentation, including documentation produced or expedited through AI-assisted tools.
• Design products and services using secure programming practices; identify, rectify, and prevent security vulnerabilities in both existing and new applications; ensure that secure practices are ingrained in design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Estimate project work that encompasses multiple product areas, considering time, resources, skills, sequencing, dependencies, and risks.
• Proactively recognize technologies, tools, frameworks, patterns, or automation opportunities that enhance engineering effectiveness, delivery speed, quality, reliability, or business results.
• Develop and present proposed solution strategies for new technologies, engineering practices, automation opportunities, and agentic tooling patterns; collaborate with architecture and engineering leadership to review and sanction proposals.
• Mentor and guide other software engineers in software design, engineering practices, AI-assisted development, effective utilization of agentic tools, testing discipline, and operational accountability.
• Actively seek mentorship, feedback, and technical insights from peers, principal engineers, architects, product partners, and leadership.
• Lead initiatives to define and enhance the engineering lifecycle and practices for the team and related teams in collaboration with principal engineers and engineering leadership.
• Foster collaboration across multiple teams; discover methods to improve team output by empowering others, refining shared practices, reducing friction, and scaling knowledge.
• Anticipate business needs and present technical alternatives, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations to leadership, product managers, and business stakeholders.
• Continuously enhance team processes by identifying repeatable tasks that can be automated, expedited, or improved through tools, scripts, templates, AI agents, CI/CD enhancements, monitoring, or documentation practices.
• Other duties or responsibilities as assigned based on team and/or country-specific requirements.
• 8+ years of experience in developing, implementing, and supporting commercial software across multiple platforms, utilizing various programming languages.
• Proven track record of owning and delivering projects and results of increasing technical complexity.
• 8+ years of experience with modern development languages such as .NET Core, C#, TypeScript, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience with thin-client development technologies like HTML/CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and contemporary JavaScript frameworks.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools, coding assistants, or agentic engineering workflows to enhance productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, or delivery outcomes.
• Ability to critically assess, validate, and take ownership of AI-assisted or tool-generated outputs before integration into production systems.
• Experience with database objects in relational databases such as MS SQL or Oracle, encompassing schema design, stored procedure development, query optimization, and performance analysis techniques.
• Knowledge of non-relational databases such as MongoDB, Elastic, Cosmos DB, or similar technologies.
• Understanding of HTTP, REST architecture, APIs, service contracts, and distributed system integration patterns.
• Familiarity with unit, integration, acceptance, regression, and automated testing methodologies.
• Experience using version control systems like Git, GitHub, Azure DevOps, TFS, or similar platforms.
• Proficiency in CI/CD practices, continuous integration, continuous deployment, build pipelines, release automation, and deployment quality gates.
• Experience in building, deploying, or supporting cloud-native applications and services using platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Strong understanding of secure development practices, code quality, maintainability, observability, and operational accountability.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or another technology-related field, or a minimum of 4 years of equivalent work experience along with a high school diploma/GED.
