
Senior Software Engineer – AI, Legal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York, +3 more states.
• Engage in high-value client interactions, overseeing technical discovery, determining legal use cases, and establishing credibility with both legal and technical stakeholders.
• Convert complex legal workflows, business challenges, and client objectives into intelligent solution designs, technical specifications, and implementation strategies.
• Create and deploy AI-driven solutions for legal processes such as contract review, litigation support, discovery automation, and regulatory analysis.
• Develop RAG pipelines, custom AI agents, and multi-step workflows utilizing CoCounsel, Westlaw, Practical Law, and other related enterprise systems.
• Spearhead LLM evaluation initiatives for legal applications, including output quality benchmarking, hallucination risk assessment, citation quality testing, and validation for high-stakes legal tasks.
• Ensure that implemented solutions comply with ethical AI, data protection, and enterprise security standards while fostering the trust that legal professionals require.
• Mentor junior engineers, contribute reusable solution assets, and assess emerging AI techniques to enhance quality and delivery across the team.
• Juris Doctor (JD), formal legal education, or equivalent extensive experience in a legal practice setting.
• Proficiency in legal terminology and proven experience collaborating directly with lawyers, legal teams, or legal operations stakeholders.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, with a minimum of 2 years dedicated to AI/ML or LLM-powered applications.
• Advanced skills in Python and experience with AI/ML frameworks and production-level AI systems.
• Strong grasp of machine learning principles, LLM evaluation techniques, prompt engineering, and AI system design tailored for domain-specific workflows.
• Experience in constructing and integrating AI solutions into production environments using APIs, scalable pipelines, and contemporary cloud-based tools.
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work autonomously in ambiguous, client-facing settings with both legal and technical stakeholders.
