Senior Software Engineer, Accessibility

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Enhance the design, reliability, accuracy, and performance of the foundational Gecko accessibility engine.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues within our multi-process, multi-threaded codebase.

• Address operating system-specific challenges.

• Forge strong collaborative relationships with engineers and leaders across various teams.

• Partner with design and front-end teams to identify, evaluate, and rectify accessibility challenges.

• Shape web standards that facilitate or enhance access to emerging web technologies.

• Engage openly as part of the Mozilla open source initiative and connect with Mozilla’s worldwide community.

• Develop infrastructure that integrates the web platform with accessibility technologies.

• Adhere to standards regarding Gecko's memory consumption and performance metrics.

• Introduce new web functionalities to support innovative application types and content formats.

⛳️ Requirements

• A degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science or a related discipline.

• Proven expertise in C++ programming.

• Understanding of web accessibility and ARIA standards.

• Familiarity with Javascript, web technologies, and web applications.

• Experience in developing cross-platform native applications.

• Strong creative problem-solving and debugging capabilities.

• Background in writing and debugging multi-process, multi-threaded software.

• Capability to navigate and master a large, intricate multi-language codebase.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a geographically-distributed open development team.
