This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Argentina.
• As a Senior Site Reliability Contractor, you will engage in coding infrastructure automation utilizing Terraform and Github Actions for CI/CD.
• Concentrate on enhancing our monitoring capabilities through Datadog, Sentry, and Cloudwatch.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to address incidents affecting the availability of Newsela.com, while also offering support for developers during both internal and external incidents.
• Oversee and aid in the expansion of our infrastructure using Terraform, Github Actions for CI/CD, Prefect, and AWS services.
• Develop monitoring systems that trigger alerts based on symptoms rather than outages with the help of Datadog, Sentry, and CloudWatch.
• Seek opportunities to automate repetitive manual processes to alleviate on-call burdens.
• Enhance operational workflows (including deployments, releases, migrations, etc.) to ensure they operate smoothly with an emphasis on fault tolerance.
• Design, construct, and maintain core cloud infrastructure on AWS and GCP, facilitating scalability to accommodate thousands of concurrent users.
• Troubleshoot production issues across various services and levels of the stack.
• Offer infrastructure and architectural planning support as an integrated member of Newsela’s application development team.
• Strategize the growth of Newsela’s infrastructure.
• Infrastructure as code: proficiency in using Terraform and Github CI/CD for automation, containerizing our environments (Docker, ECS), and leveraging cloud technologies to achieve our objectives.
• Systems: capable of managing, configuring, and resolving operating system issues, storage (both block and object), networking (VPCs, proxies, and CDNs), and administering high-availability datastores (mySQL, Postgres, Neo4J) and Redis clusters.
• Monitoring and instrumentation: ability to implement metrics in Datadog, Sentry, log management systems, and integrate with Slack/JIRA.
• Engineering practices: knowledge in availability, reliability, scalability, and disaster recovery.
• Competency in various programming languages: Shell, IaC, Python, SQL.
• Planning: familiarity with agile methodologies, utilizing epics and issues to guide projects.
• Organization: adept in personal and team workload organization, leading OKRs.
• Management: capable of self-organizing and completing tasks asynchronously.
• Leading and contributing to the scope and designs for issues, epics, and OKRs.
• Contributing to Newsela architecture diagrams, process diagrams, and runbook documentation.
• Executing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and conducting readiness reviews.
• Enhancing team practices through code reviews, work handoffs, and incident management.
• Sharing knowledge and mentoring within SRE and developer teams.
• Demonstrating self-awareness, managing conflicts within the team, and providing as well as receiving feedback.
• Fostering positive relationships with other engineering teams at Newsela to improve the product.
