Senior Silicon Photonics Chip Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and validate silicon photonics chips intended for high-speed optical transmitters and receivers, ensuring a balance between performance, cost, and reliability criteria.

• Define layouts for photonic integrated circuits (GDS) and work closely with wafer fabrication partners to ensure design verification, production, and delivery.

• Lead and participate in photonic circuit design reviews prior to the ramp-up of production.

• Support the prototyping of modules, establish test plans, and facilitate the transition of designs to high-volume manufacturing in collaboration with operations and manufacturing teams.

• Drive ongoing enhancements in performance, yield, and reliability throughout the entire product lifecycle.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to produce prototypes and final products based on Ciena’s silicon photonics platform.

• Monitor, document, and communicate technical progress while actively identifying risks that may affect specifications, timelines, or budgets.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Optics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a related field.

• Over 5 years of experience in the industry focused on silicon photonic integrated circuit design.

• Proven experience in delivering silicon photonics products within production environments.

• Advanced skills with photonic and electronic design tools, such as Cadence Virtuoso and Ansys Lumerical.

• Strong understanding of design principles for both passive and active photonic integrated circuits.

• Capability to work independently while also effectively contributing to multidisciplinary teams.

• Proficiency in both French and English, in written and spoken forms.
