
Senior Security Engineer I – Customer Trust

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of US customer trust operations by overseeing the intake, triage, prioritization, and fulfillment of customer security questionnaires, vendor risk assessments, and RFIs for customers based in the US.
• Address customer security inquiries with technical expertise: Accurately complete questionnaires, respond to RFIs, and resolve customer security issues with answers that reflect a deep understanding of Smartsheet's architecture and security measures.
• Oversee the questionnaire queue and ensure adherence to SLAs: Maintain awareness of pending assessments, monitor completion timelines, and escalate any delays. Keep customers updated on progress and manage their expectations.
• Foster customer relationships and provide security reassurance: Become a trusted advisor for customer security teams. Understand their compliance needs, ask clarifying questions, and provide answers that instill confidence in Smartsheet's security controls.
• Support US sales teams: Collaborate with sales and customer success teams to eliminate security-related deal obstacles, supply compliance assurance materials, and expedite customer purchasing processes.
• Escalate and collaborate on intricate assessments: Identify inquiries that require specialized knowledge (such as AI security, FedRAMP, HIPAA, and specific control implementations) and escalate them as necessary. Work across departments to gather evidence and deliver thorough responses.
• Comprehend industry-specific compliance: Address inquiries regarding HIPAA, NIST, state privacy laws (like CCPA), PCI DSS, and specific requirements relevant to customer sectors.
• Promote process enhancements: Identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency of questionnaire completion, revise response templates, and suggest changes that benefit both the team and customer experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in customer trust, vendor risk, security assessments, or customer-facing security engineering positions at SaaS or cloud platform organizations.
• A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrated success in completing customer security questionnaires, vendor assessments, and conducting security RFI responses.
• Familiarity with GRC frameworks and standards: Knowledge of SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST frameworks, HIPAA, and compliance assessment practices.
• Strong technical security background: Understanding of cloud architecture (AWS, GCP, Azure), application security, access controls, encryption, logging, incident response, and data protection sufficient to confidently address technical inquiries.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills: Ability to clearly explain complex security topics to both technical and non-technical audiences. Proficiency in adapting communication style for various customers and contexts.
• Queue management and SLA discipline: Comfort with ticketing systems, handling multiple concurrent requests, tracking dependencies, and prioritizing tasks.
• Team-oriented and collaborative mindset: Capacity to work effectively with sales, customer success, product security, and engineering teams. Strong at seeking assistance when necessary and escalating issues appropriately.
