Senior Scientist I, Medicinal Chemistry

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Assist in medicinal chemistry initiatives and coordinate synthetic chemistry efforts to produce high-quality small molecule development candidates within competitive timelines.

• Protect the Company’s intellectual property by enhancing its patent portfolio.

• Aid in the management of remote teams comprising medicinal and synthetic chemists at Contract Research Organizations (CROs).

• Integrate and analyze project biology and DMPK data for hit-to-lead and lead optimization campaigns through rational molecular design.

• Input project data into the company database and document it in the Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN).

• Support patent applications with experimental documentation and data verification.

• Collaborate effectively with project teams, biology, biophysics, computational sciences colleagues, and external partners.

• Communicate clearly and interpret complex data for diverse audiences.

• Prioritize tasks according to project objectives and ensure timely achievement of goals.

• Stay updated with cutting-edge technologies and advancements in medicinal chemistry.


⛳️ Requirements

• PhD or MSc in organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry.

• Proven track record of success and comprehensive experience in an industrial drug discovery setting.

• 3–5 years of experience in drug discovery.

• Strong understanding of synthetic and medicinal chemistry.

• Experience in managing remote teams of medicinal and synthetic chemists at Contract Research Organizations.

• Solid grasp of biological signaling pathways, structure-based drug design, and ADME optimization in drug discovery.

• Familiarity with preclinical drug discovery processes including hit identification, hit-to-lead, and lead optimization leading to the delivery of development candidates.

• Eligibility to work in the UK.

• Nice to have: expertise in analyzing and interpreting data from biophysical assays.

• Nice to have: experience with StarDrop, Spotfire, Vortex, or DataWarrior.

• Nice to have: background in preclinical drug discovery from target selection and hit identification through to delivering development candidates across various programs.

• Nice to have: experience in evaluating the patent landscape surrounding a target.

• Nice to have: enthusiasm for developing leadership abilities.

• Nice to have: knowledge of cheminformatics and/or modeling software such as PyMol, KNIME, or Torx, and the ability to utilize machine learning tools to predict assay endpoints.

• Nice to have: strong publication history in peer-reviewed journals and experience in conference presentations.
