Senior Resource Plane Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the design, execution, and management of shared Resource Plane services utilized throughout the organization.

• Manage and enhance Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, and Elasticsearch platforms in a production environment.

• Implement SRE principles to guarantee the availability, scalability, reliability, and secure upgrades of stateful systems.

• Develop and sustain Infrastructure-as-Code and GitOps-based automation for provisioning and lifecycle management.

• Establish and uphold supported usage patterns, guardrails, and golden paths for platform users.

• Integrate Resource Plane services into the Internal Developer Platform for self-service utilization.

• Engage in an on-call rotation (initially may involve a 24x7 weekly rotation; target state is business-hours primary).

• Lead incident response efforts, conduct root cause analyses, and implement reliability enhancements for services under your purview.

• Collaborate closely with the Kubernetes Platform Team, IDP, and other teams as necessary.

• Serve as a senior technical authority in architectural discussions and platform roadmap planning.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology.

• Senior-level experience in managing production-grade, stateful distributed systems.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, and Elasticsearch.

• Demonstrated experience operating infrastructure primarily in on-premises environments.

• Strong comprehension of Linux systems, networking, and storage fundamentals.

• In-depth experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform is preferred).

• Familiarity with GitOps workflows and declarative infrastructure management.

• Solid understanding of reliability engineering concepts (SLOs, error budgets, alerting, capacity planning).

• Experience working with platforms and services adjacent to Kubernetes.

• Capability to work independently and take ownership within a small team setting.

• **Preferred Qualifications**:

• Experience in designing shared platform services that are utilized by multiple product teams.

• Knowledge of IDP concepts and developer self-service platforms.

• Experience transitioning on-prem workloads to cloud-native or hybrid models.

• Awareness of security, compliance, and governance requirements for shared infrastructure.

• Previous experience in staff- or principal-level technical leadership roles.
