This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead and develop innovative research initiatives from the formulation of questions and hypotheses through study design, data gathering, analysis, interpretation, and communication.
• Create and evaluate randomized controlled trials, field and survey experiments, quasi-experimental studies, longitudinal research, and various methodologies to assess program and intervention impacts.
• Combine quantitative and qualitative techniques, incorporating surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
• Establish metrics for attitudes, behavior, engagement, and program effectiveness.
• Assess whether interventions should be adjusted, expanded, scaled, or terminated.
• Identify high-priority research questions, emerging methodologies, and opportunities to enhance the understanding of behavioral and social factors influencing decarbonization.
• Collaborate with program, organizing, communications, advocacy, civic engagement, and digital teams.
• Work alongside academic researchers, community stakeholders, polling agencies, vendors, and other external entities.
• Compile research into actionable findings, recommendations, presentations, and written materials for both technical and general audiences.
• Travel to departmental meetings, staff retreats, and additional events to represent the department and organization.
• PhD in psychology, political science, sociology, communication, behavioral science, public policy, evaluation, or another pertinent social science discipline, or equivalent advanced research training and experience.
• Capability to operate as an independent researcher.
• Proven experience in formulating original research questions, designing studies, critically assessing evidence, and deriving well-supported conclusions.
• Extensive experience in designing and executing applied social or behavioral research.
• Familiarity with randomized controlled trials, field or survey experiments, and experimental or quasi-experimental frameworks.
• Strong quantitative research proficiency, including statistical analysis, research design, and causal inference.
• Experience in qualitative or mixed-methods research, encompassing interviews, focus groups, or analysis of open-ended data.
• Proficiency in statistical and research software such as R, Python, Stata, SAS, SPSS, or related tools.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
• Entrepreneurial and self-motivated, possessing strong scientific judgment.
• Comfortably manage multiple research projects independently.
• Preferred: Three or more years of research experience post-doctoral degree.
• Preferred: Experience in one or more GoodPower focus areas.
• Ability to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position.
