Senior Researcher, AI Civics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Act as a primary contributor to the AI Civics program, which emphasizes civic action and community governance of AI.

• Lead one or multiple partnerships with national organizations engaged in K-12 education, labor, faith, or advocacy.

• Implement mission-critical co-design and participatory research initiatives as part of the AI Civics program.

• Collaborate closely with the AI Civics Program Director and team to co-create educational resources and publicly available outputs.

• Report on program objectives and research advancements to organizational leadership.

• Engage in and assist in organizing research team events, public writing, and speaking opportunities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A graduate degree or its equivalent is required.

• Proficiency in one or more areas relevant to the program, including K-12 education, labor, faith organizations, or other foundational aspects of civic life concerning data-centric technologies and AI.

• A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in research organizations or research settings within institutions (university, public policy, advocacy, government, etc.), including graduate studies.

• Strong expertise in participatory research methodologies and excellent research capabilities are essential.

• A proven history of transforming research into published works.

• A public presence and the capacity to engage with non-academic audiences through writing and presentations.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in collaborative efforts to achieve successful research outcomes.

• Capability to coordinate and conduct comprehensive qualitative research.

• Adaptability to a fast-paced work environment in a rapidly changing organization.

• Strong organizational, analytical, and writing skills, along with familiarity with academic literature in the relevant field.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and the D&S community.
