Senior Remote Sensing Data Scientist – GeoAI, Earth Observation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.

📋 Description

• Participate in various geospatial AI and Earth observation projects.

• Emphasize the operationalization of GeoAI services utilizing AI and extensive Earth observation processing.

• Assist with crop type mapping initiatives and enhance algorithms for digital agriculture.

• Design and refine ML/CV algorithms for processing large-scale remote sensing data, particularly using Sentinel data.

• Evaluate data flows and optimize databases and queries.

• Work collaboratively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a global context.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrable experience in optimizing and tuning databases and queries.

• Proven track record in analyzing data flows.

• Capability to function in an international, multidisciplinary environment, with a strong command of English.

• According to the provided information, Dutch is not a mandatory requirement for this position.

• Established experience with geospatial foundation models.

• A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in developing and enhancing algorithms for large-scale remote sensing data processing.

• Familiarity with deep learning frameworks in PyTorch, with a keen interest in their application to geospatial or sensor data.

• Knowledge of spatial databases, including duckDB, along with experience in exploring noisy tabular labeled data.

• A solid software engineering background, with excellent Python skills.

• Strong GIS capabilities, including proficiency with QGIS, ArcGIS, and GDAL.

• Experience with tools such as dbt and Airflow.

• Language requirement as specified: Dutch proficiency at European CEFR level C2.

• Proven experience with databases such as SQL and Oracle.

• Demonstrable experience in reporting.

• Proven experience with scripting languages, including Shell, Perl, and Python.

• Established academic credibility in the use of foundation models within remote sensing.

• A self-directed work ethic, strong analytical skills, and the communication abilities to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Extensive experience in the agricultural domain is essential, particularly in crop type mapping and digital agriculture applications.
