This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Conduct reliability modeling and statistical evaluations for energy management and protection/control devices.
• Create and implement reliability test plans for both hardware and software, encompassing HIL, environmental, and stress testing.
• Perform FMEA, FMECA, and root cause assessments for instances of hardware/software failures.
• Integrate Design for Reliability throughout the product development lifecycle, from conception to deployment.
• Examine field data from installed relays, RTUs, and control systems to pinpoint systemic problems and suggest corrective/preventive measures.
• Work in collaboration with utilities and customers on initiatives aimed at grid asset performance and modernization.
• Establish and track reliability KPIs such as MTBF, FIT rate, and availability metrics.
• Promote predictive and condition-based maintenance strategies utilizing remote diagnostics, SCADA, and sensor data.
• Coordinate with the Innovation Office and Applications team regarding reliability priorities, leadership in standards, and technology strategy.
• Keep track of NERC, IEEE, and IEC regulatory compliance requirements that influence utility asset reliability and cybersecurity.
• Offer coaching, training, and support on reliability practices to both internal teams and external partners.
• A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field is required.
• Significant experience in reliability, systems, or product engineering within the energy or utility industry.
• Knowledge of protection and control systems, grid-edge devices, substation automation, and utility-grade software.
• Practical experience with reliability engineering tools and standards, including ReliaSoft, ISO 9001/55000, and IEC 61025.
• Familiarity with IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, IEEE C37.118, and other transmission and distribution communication protocols.
• Proficient in Python, R, Minitab, or Power BI for data analysis purposes.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Comprehensive understanding of T&D grid reliability challenges.
• Capacity for systems thinking and adept problem-solving skills.
• Experience with model-based design and HIL testing using RTDS, PSCAD, or EMTP.
• Knowledge of electronics and CAD simulation tools.
• Direct experience working with T&D utilities on product deployments, failure investigations, or asset management strategies.
• Awareness of cybersecurity risks and reliability factors concerning critical infrastructure.
• A Master’s degree in Reliability or Systems Engineering is preferred.
• Certification as a Reliability Engineer (CRE) or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
