Senior Quality Assurance Engineer

Posted Jun 21

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Conduct field testing through daily drone flights for regression, acceptance, and validation. A physical area of over 10 acres that is accessible from your location is required, along with the expertise to independently manage a high-quality flight program.

β€’ Develop and execute test plans by defining thorough strategies for new features and releases. You should possess a deeper understanding of the requirements than the PM or EM, identifying edge cases before they are noticed by others.

β€’ Coordinate with the QA team by designing and scheduling QA test programs, drafting clear plans and checklists, and minimizing back-and-forth communication to ensure QA does not become a bottleneck.

β€’ Maintain high standards for bug reporting by taking ownership of the bug reporting rubric (including reproduction steps, severity, exposure, context, logs, and media) and enforcing it to ensure triage is straightforward and requires no validation pass to comprehend a ticket.

β€’ Oversee the regression strategy by managing the Dock, Android, and iOS regression suites. You will own the "regression found" playbook, ensuring the suites effectively test user workflows and identify significant issues.

β€’ Build and sustain automated testing to lessen the manual testing burden and enhance confidence levels. An AI-first approach will be employed for test setup, maintenance, and analysis.

β€’ Monitor quality metrics including post-release bugs per feature, escalation patterns, QA throughput, and issues that violate SLOs. Utilize these metrics to refine processes and direct QA resources to areas that mitigate risk most effectively.

β€’ Manage equipment and environments by upholding Qase suites, device/drone inventory, firmware tracking, and internal QA tools. This ensures there are no last-minute scrambles due to inadequate setup.

⛳️ Requirements

β€’ Access to a minimum of 10 acres for daily drone operations, either at your residence or nearby.

β€’ Possession of an FAA Part 107 Certificate (required; candidates can obtain this upon hiring).

β€’ Experience in hardware QA, demonstrating the ability to validate hardware behavior comprehensively, beyond just software.

β€’ At least 4 years of experience in QA or quality engineering for hardware or mobile products.

β€’ An automation mindset, focusing on building automation solutions to reduce manual workload and enhance shipment confidence.

β€’ A proactive approach, identifying issues, risks, and blockers without needing to be prompted.

β€’ Strong coding and scripting abilities in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, or similar languages.

β€’ Familiarity with test and defect management platforms, such as Qase or similar, as well as defect tracking tools like Jira.

β€’ Excellent communication skills, capable of crafting concise bug tickets, delivering clear standup updates, and coordinating team efforts effectively.

β€’ Proficiency with AI tools, which are integral to this role. Candidates will need to utilize AI for test setup and maintenance, bug analysis and triage, metrics review, and initial resolution attempts for new bug tickets in code. Candidates should already be applying AI in their QA tasks and be eager to advance its use.

β€’ Experience testing mobile applications (Android/iOS) using frameworks such as Appium, Espresso, or Detox.

β€’ Familiarity with robotics, geospatial, or autonomous systems.

β€’ Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins).

β€’ Knowledge of API and integration testing.

β€’ Background in testing drone flight systems, RTK/PPK workflows, or embedded firmware.
