Research Scientist III – QA-QC

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Collaborates with data to generate preliminary insights and create written reports along with data visualizations that aid the research efforts of the Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI).

• Works in close partnership with FSRI leadership and researchers to scrutinize data.

• Develops models related to fire safety science to ensure all procedures are precise and technically robust.

• Identifies essential knowledge required to elevate UL’s thought leadership and bolster UL's strategic initiatives.

• Applies extensive and varied expertise in engineering technology and systems engineering principles to specific research assignments.

• Analyzes emergency response data to uncover trends and formulate solutions.

• Maintains data quality, lineage, and compliance with governance standards using enterprise catalog tools.

• Keeps abreast of evolving technologies by reading scholarly articles and scientific journals, and attending academic conferences.

• Plans, designs, and executes initial as well as follow-up tests as necessary to confirm results.

• Presents research findings internally or externally as required.

• Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline, along with 8 or more years of relevant work experience.

• Master's degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, paired with 4 or more years of relevant work experience.

• PhD in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.

• Proficient with ETL/ELT tools and contemporary data pipeline architectures.

• Experienced in data validation, cleansing, and quality assurance practices.

• Skilled in testing and troubleshooting data pipelines, integrations, and transformation processes.

• Experienced in developing automated data quality checks and validation scripts.

• Exceptional communication skills are essential.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and engage directly with Research Scientists and other team members to see projects through from inception to completion.

• Capable of serving as the lead author on reports and academic papers.
