Senior Python Software Engineer – Backend Workflows

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Shaping the Python language ecosystem with a robust product and platform perspective, establishing clear development patterns and documentation in collaboration with Infra and Product teams to bolster Canva’s overarching AI strategy.

• Designing, constructing, and delivering high-impact solutions that enhance the Python developer experience at Canva, while maintaining high standards of engineering excellence.

• Promoting Python engineering best practices throughout the organization, influencing teams, and aligning development approaches with Canva’s long-term strategy.

• Creating internal observability tools and metrics that provide the team with actionable insights, facilitating informed, targeted decisions regarding investments in the Python ecosystem.

• Leading organization-wide ecosystem migrations and tooling transformations, overseeing design, rollout, telemetry, communication, and long-term maintenance strategies.

• Defining and implementing the long-term vision for IDE developer tooling, ensuring that our tools evolve to meet the requirements of Python engineers and align with industry trends.

⛳️ Requirements

• You possess expert-level Python experience, with familiarity in modern development ecosystems and tools such as Bazel being advantageous.

• You have showcased leadership and ownership of intricate, high-impact engineering initiatives, exhibiting a strong sense of accountability for outcomes.

• You are deeply committed to engineering excellence and systems architecture, with an aptitude for designing scalable, reliable systems with strong non-functional foundations.

• You have extensive experience with containerization, Terraform, and GitOps, along with a solid comprehension of how to build and manage production-grade infrastructure.

• You have a background in integrating ML applications into platform or backend systems, with an understanding of AI/ML toolchains and their operational necessities.

• You are able to translate customer and developer needs into significant technical solutions, applying a product mindset to enhance developer experience at scale.
