Senior Python Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Design and expand backend APIs tailored for live e-commerce applications.

• Enhance and refine backend capabilities for search functionalities.

• Focus on scalability, performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.

• Optimize API response times and improve server-side platform performance.

• Incorporate machine learning workflows into backend production systems.

• Develop and maintain backend components for search, personalization, and recommendation functionalities.

• Utilize technologies such as Python, Flask, MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, and AWS.

• Take full ownership of features from design and development through to deployment, monitoring, and support.

• Collaborate closely with the backend lead and the wider team, while being accountable for essential backend tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive backend engineering experience with Python, preferably with Flask or Django.

• Demonstrated experience in building production-quality REST APIs.

• Practical experience with MySQL and Redis.

• Strong expertise in Elasticsearch.

• Relevant experience in semantic search, relevance tuning, ranking, or recommendation systems.

• Robust experience with AWS; familiarity with ECS is preferred.

• Knowledge of AWS data services such as Athena, DynamoDB, Firehose, and S3.

• Proficient in GitHub workflows, CloudFormation, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Basic knowledge of JavaScript and React.

• Proven experience managing high-scale, low-latency production systems.

• Experience with large codebases or substantial applications at scale.

• Experience integrating AI/ML workflows into production settings.

• Ability to work independently, learn rapidly, and contribute without extensive daily guidance.

• Familiarity with Shopify APIs or the Shopify ecosystem is advantageous, but not mandatory.
