Senior Python Backend Developer – SWAT Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Design and develop scalable microservices using Python for a new internal gateway enablement platform.

• Take charge of system architecture decisions to ensure long-term scalability, performance, and maintainability.

• Create tools and services that enhance the efficiency of the existing Core Gateway and Gateway Projects teams.

• Integrate and abstract third-party APIs along with payment-related external services.

• Establish engineering standards for the SWAT team, including coding practices, API design, and service structure.

• Collaborate closely with DevOps to design and enhance CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and observability.

• Lead code reviews to maintain high engineering quality across the team.

• Work with both legacy (Perl) and modern systems, facilitating gradual modernization.

• Identify bottlenecks in current systems and create technical solutions to eliminate them.

• Serve as a technical reference point within the SWAT team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of backend engineering experience, with a strong proficiency in Python.

• Proven track record in designing and delivering microservices architectures at scale.

• In-depth knowledge of FastAPI or Django, with a preference for FastAPI.

• Experience in building systems within high-performance, distributed environments.

• Strong expertise in API design, with RESTful services knowledge; event-driven architecture is a plus.

• Hands-on experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitLab.

• Cloud experience with AWS or GCP.

• Solid understanding of system design, scalability, and reliability principles.

• Experience in fintech, payment systems, banking, or high-volume transaction systems is a strong advantage.

• Ability to work with or maintain legacy systems; exposure to Perl is a plus but not mandatory.

• Strong ownership mindset with the capability to independently drive technical direction.
