Senior Project Manager – Freelance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee daily project management for a multifaceted digital product engagement, ensuring clarity of priorities, timelines, deliverables, and accountability across all workstreams.

• Act as the primary coordination point between internal AKQA teams (strategy, UX, design, technology) and client stakeholders.

• Manage project timelines, milestones, and dependencies with precision, proactively identifying risks and facilitating timely resolutions.

• Supervise scope management and change control, collaborating with discipline leads to evaluate impact and ensure alignment on approved work.

• Assist in resource coordination, ensuring the appropriate personnel are engaged at the right moments throughout the project lifecycle.

• Lead regular project ceremonies and working sessions, keeping teams aligned and focused on achieving outcomes.

• Maintain clear and consistent project documentation (status reports, RAID logs, decision logs, meeting notes) to keep all stakeholders informed.

• Collaborate with the client to manage expectations, communicate progress, and navigate complexities with poise and clarity.

• Ensure delivery processes adhere to agile, waterfall, or hybrid methodologies as required by the engagement.

• Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of delivery practices and work methodologies within the project and the broader team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of project management experience in a digital agency or product delivery setting.

• Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-workstream engagements with overlapping timelines, dependencies, and stakeholder groups.

• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong ability to anticipate potential issues before they escalate.

• Clear and confident communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Comfortable working independently and proactively in a fast-paced, remote environment.

• Proficient in project management and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or similar).
