Senior Professional Services Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.

📋 Description

• Facilitate GitLab Professional Services projects, encompassing installation, migration, training, and advisory services across various GitLab functionalities.

• Strategically plan and implement deployments that range from single-node Omnibus setups to extensive reference architectures utilizing Infrastructure as Code and Configuration as Code methodologies.

• Oversee migrations from diverse source systems to GitLab SaaS or self-managed GitLab, assisting clients in adopting secure and reliable workflows.

• Collaborate with Engagement Managers and Project Managers to enhance delivery consistency, eliminate obstacles, and continuously optimize delivery processes.

• Act as a trusted technical consultant for clients, converting goals and limitations into actionable implementation plans and clear next steps.

• Collaborate with GitLab's product and engineering teams to eliminate customer obstacles and provide feedback that enhances GitLab features and services.

• Guide Associate and Intermediate Professional Services Engineers by offering technical mentorship, helping to resolve challenges, and fostering increased independence.

• Oversee and manage multiple customer engagements simultaneously, serving either as the primary engineer or as a lead, directing and guiding other engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Professional experience with one or more infrastructure as code or configuration as code technologies, including Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Puppet, or Chef.

• Professional experience with at least two cloud providers, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.

• Familiarity with using, deploying, or configuring GitLab, along with a solid understanding of Git and source control workflows.

• Experience in providing customer-facing services, including installation, migration, training, and advisory services across GitLab's feature set.

• Proven capability to independently manage one or more projects and to lead and guide other Professional Services Engineers on complex engagements.

• Excellent communication abilities in English, both written and verbal, with the capacity to provide clear status updates and build consensus with peers and customers in a remote, primarily asynchronous environment.

• Proven track record of adopting a solution-oriented approach by identifying root causes, suggesting options and tradeoffs, and driving issues to resolution while managing multiple customer engagements in a fast-paced environment.

• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fully remote organization by communicating effectively in writing, documenting decisions, collaborating asynchronously across time zones, and aligning with GitLab's values.

• Must reside in Japan and possess full working rights in Japan.
