This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.
• Underwrite complex new and renewal business profitably by selecting risks, pricing accurately, maintaining contractual integrity, and managing accounts, all while adhering to delegated authority and ensuring compliance with regulations.
• Utilize critical thinking skills to evaluate risks and identify potential exposures and controls.
• Price risks appropriately in relation to identified exposures and controls.
• Establish suitable terms and conditions to foster a profitable portfolio.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of assigned files that reflects the underwriting thought process.
• Act as a subject matter expert to assist colleagues with intricate risk scenarios.
• Employ effective portfolio management techniques to meet profit and premium objectives set forth by the business unit strategies.
• Attain production targets within the designated territory.
• Handle marketing responsibilities, which include conducting both in-person and virtual sales meetings with agencies and clients.
• Engage in prospecting to create a robust pipeline of new business opportunities.
• Foster and sustain productive relationships with producers and agencies.
• Represent UFG in the marketplace, effectively communicating the company's strengths in underwriting, risk control, and claims across all business units.
• Work collaboratively with Business Unit and Line of Business underwriting, Sales and Distribution, Underwriting Center, Underwriting Support, Risk Control, Legal, Claims, and other internal stakeholders to ensure optimal management.
• Conduct agency reviews to gather relevant intelligence on market opportunities.
• Provide management with insights regarding the current state of the marketplace, agencies, and competitive landscape.
• Mentor and train team members, serving as a resource for answering questions, resolving escalated issues, and providing guidance.
• Represent the field underwriter perspective in significant corporate initiatives and projects.
• Support and engage in the rollout of technical underwriting training and content.
• A four-year college degree is preferred.
• Completion of or progress towards AU, CIC, and/or CPCU designations is preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting is preferred.
• Advanced skills in risk evaluation and knowledge of insurance contracts.
• Ability to implement the current underwriting strategy for the assigned territory to make sound underwriting decisions.
• Strong leadership capabilities, including the ability to mentor, coach, and train others.
• Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment while efficiently prioritizing and completing tasks.
• Excellent customer service abilities.
• Effective stakeholder management skills, including the capacity to establish a high degree of trust with both internal and external partners.
