Remotery

Senior Product Engineer

Posted Jul 17

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of outcomes rather than just tickets. You will transform business challenges into effective, scalable systems.

• Deliver products. Our focus is on what is operational and effective, rather than what exists in design documents. You will frequently release updates and refine them based on actual usage by our customers or team.

• Make informed product decisions. You will determine what to develop (and what to avoid), prioritize tasks, and navigate trade-offs between speed, quality, and complexity. Engaging directly with users of your creations is essential.

• Write robust code. Our technology stack includes React, Node, TypeScript, and AWS. You will produce production-ready code that other engineers can build upon, rather than prototypes requiring rewrites.

• Leverage AI for development. As part of an AI-native engineering team, you'll employ agent-first workflows to achieve a development speed that would be unfeasible manually. The main challenge lies not in implementation but in making decisions about what to develop and the rationale behind it.

• Prioritize effectively. Although you will be accountable for product decisions and swift execution, collaboration with the team is essential to ensure your progress aligns with our commercial objectives.

⛳️ Requirements

• A curious generalist rather than a narrow specialist. You naturally traverse various disciplines and have engaged in product thinking, systems design, user research, or operations problem-solving — not merely as part of your job description, but out of a desire to grasp the complete problem.

• Strong product intuition. Your initial question is typically "should we build this?" instead of "how do we build this?" You can converse with non-technical stakeholders, comprehend their challenges, and translate those into appropriate technical solutions.

• Comprehensive ownership. You have successfully launched features or systems for which you were fully responsible for the outcomes — from defining the problem to production and iteration. You have built a significant amount from the ground up, rather than simply inheriting and extending existing work.

• Solid technical foundations. You create clean, maintainable code, have a grasp of systems design, and make sensible architectural choices.

• Ability to handle ambiguity. As part of a small team in a growth-stage fintech, you will often face unclear requirements. You thrive in such situations rather than feeling overwhelmed.

• Effective communication. You write with clarity. You can articulate a technical trade-off to a founder and explain a product decision to an engineer.

• Passionate about building. You are a technical creator who enjoys problem-solving; if "software engineering" is just a "good job" to you, this may not be the right place for you.

🏝️ Benefits

• Flexibility to work remotely.

• Competitive salary and Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) — we want you to share in Skip's success.

• Opportunity to tackle meaningful challenges — assisting more Australians in achieving home ownership sooner.

• A high-agency, high-ownership environment where capable operators can make a tangible difference.

• Chance to lead operational transformation during a phase of rapid growth.
